Planning, Writing, and Presenting Academic Research

04. to 05. März 2027

Information about the event

This compact and interactive course is designed for doctoral students and postdocs who wish to strengthen their skills in academic communication. Good research alone is rarely enough to succeed in academia. Researchers compete for attention, conference slots, and publication opportunities, and their work must therefore be communicated clearly and persuasively. The course enables participants to do exactly that, both verbally and in writing.

The course covers the development and planning of research ideas, the writing of compelling abstracts and introductions, the design of informative tables and figures, and the structured presentation of one's own research within limited time. Practical exercises with individual feedback form a central part of the course. Participants write an abstract of their own research, deliver a short pitch presentation, and practice an elevator pitch. In addition, the course provides insights into dealing with setbacks in the research process and into the peer review and publication processes of international academic journals.

The course is open to participants from all areas of business and economics and regularly attracts participants from related disciplines. Research at an early stage is sufficient as a prerequisite. Further details on the schedule and contents can be found in the syllabus provided. The course language for written work, presentations, and pitches is English.
